What Ipamorelin is
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide amide with the sequence Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2. Only two of its five residues, histidine and lysine, belong to the standard set of twenty L-amino acids. Position 1 is alpha-aminoisobutyric acid (Aib), an achiral residue with two methyl groups on its alpha carbon; position 3 is 3-(2-naphthyl)-D-alanine; position 4 is D-phenylalanine. The C-terminus is amidated, and the free-acid form, about one dalton heavier, is a different compound.
In our catalog Ipamorelin sits with the ghrelin-receptor (GHS-R1a) ligands, next to Hexarelin. The two are often grouped as GHRP-type peptides, yet they share little beyond a D-Phe and a C-terminal lysine amide: Hexarelin is six residues long and built around two indole rings, while Ipamorelin is five residues and carries a naphthalene. Neither has any sequence in common with the GHRH-derived peptides such as Sermorelin or CJC-1295.

How Ipamorelin is analyzed
For a molecule of 712 g/mol, Ipamorelin retains strongly on C18: the naphthyl and phenyl rings give it far more hydrophobic surface than its length suggests, so it elutes well into a water/acetonitrile gradient. The naphthyl group also absorbs in roughly the 270 to 290 nm band even though the sequence has no tryptophan or tyrosine, which makes a second-wavelength trace and a diode-array spectrum across the peak useful identity evidence. Purity itself is read near 214 nm. In the mass spectrum the singly protonated ion should appear close to m/z 712.4.
The impurity that matters most here is invisible to mass. Racemization at position 3 or 4 yields a diastereomer with the identical formula, so only a shallow gradient that resolves the two forms can reveal it; Aib, being achiral, removes one such risk entirely. Our independent reverse-phase HPLC result for Ipamorelin 5mg appears on this page, and because no lot or batch number is printed on the vial, the crimp and cap color is what links a vial to that result.
Research contexts for Ipamorelin
- GHS-R1a (ghrelin receptor) binding assays in membrane preparations or transfected cell lines
- Structure-activity comparisons across GHRP-type sequences such as Hexarelin
- Chromatographic method development for resolving D/L diastereomers of short peptides
- Chiral amino acid analysis of peptides containing non-proteinogenic residues
Ipamorelin 5mg is supplied as a reference material for in-vitro and analytical laboratory work and is not for administration to people or animals.
Ipamorelin questions
Why can Ipamorelin pass a mass check and still be the wrong molecule?
Two of its residues are D-enantiomers, and a version with the wrong configuration at either position has exactly the same mass. Mass confirms composition; only a resolving chromatographic or chiral method confirms configuration.
Does Aib have a D or L form?
No. Its alpha carbon carries two identical methyl groups, so it is not a stereocenter and position 1 cannot racemize.
Is Ipamorelin the same as Hexarelin?
No. Hexarelin is the hexapeptide His-D-2-methyl-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2 at about 887 g/mol; Ipamorelin is shorter, lighter and contains Aib and naphthylalanine instead of tryptophan residues.
